That Was The Councillor's IntentionMark MacDonald’s $500,000 idea may sound stupid but that was his point. If the feds can play stupid why can't we? But hey, look at the attention he got.
B MacDonald Cornwall Mark MacDonald Answers His CriticsWe are losing thousands of dollars a day. If my idea is "dumb" let someone else put another idea forward. I am willing to do whatever it takes to resolve this issue.
Mark MacDonald Cornwall What About The RH Saunders Dam Money? Message for Mark MacDonald: Your new $500,000 suggestion to charge the government to use Lamoureux Park is ridiculous, especially when you can't even collect the taxes owed to us from the hydro property, yet! Only people from Cornwall would be hurt.
Don Latreille Cornwall I Got A Good Deal For Ya For Canada DayIf Lamoureux Park proves too expensive I'm willing to rent out my backyard for $5,000 a day. I'm sure my neighbours would love to do the same.
Roy Berger Cornwall Paying For Park Should Get The Fed's AttentionDoes Mark MacDonald really think that the federal government of Canada will pay the City of Cornwall $500,000 to rent Lamoureux Park? I think he inhaled too much smoke as a fireman...but at the very least he will get someone's attention. Will they listen? Well, that's another story.
Richard Kake Lancaster Half Million Dollar Park Charge Is Ridiculous$500,000 to use Lamoureux Park for Canada Day or any other function is stupid. The festivities there are for the people of Cornwall and put on by the people of Cornwall. This whole idea is a joke.
Brian Payment Cornwall Population By The NumbersIn a recent article, Claude McIntosh expanded on the population deflation of a number of Ontario cities, including Cornwall. It would appear that none of us have been allowed to expand on our overall area of population as would be reflected in regional signage posted on all access routes to our cities. This to me is a failure of our Ontario government to change its rules to allow cities newer incorporation to reflect their hinterland or regional ‘next door’ housing and industrial linkages. This "thumbs on our necks" to withhold these truths means no city can grow beyond its current borders bounding only its older inner populations within. I cry foul. I have a proposal for MPP Jim Brownell and Mayor Bob Kilger; all regions surrounding us that use any of our facilities such as our library, water tower, storm and sewage disposal, by axiom incorporate part of the ‘Cornwall Regional Population’ and therefore should be automatically incorporated in any Cornwall regional signage. This stands to reason, and is not that complicated and really does merit distinction. By creating this more true population count we do in fact have growth in our area population. Those that shop in Cornwall for groceries, clothing, birthday presents, as well as gasoline and car maintenance are by their very recognition of these services part of Cornwall’s regional population. Together we would gain as we are viewed by industry for manpower, youth, and intellectual prowess. To be threatened by regional signage is a pound foolish as all would gain in this recognition. What appears to be a simple change in the numbers gaming rules really is a need to change mind sets. Release all of us from the unfair stigma of zero population growth for all Ontario cities. Dave Windsor Cornwall Street Problems In CornwallWith all due respect to Cornwall's finest I am to see that it takes three police cruisers and four to five officers to stand along the new street (Nick Kaneb) to catch speeders. Obviously Cornwall has extra money to waste on salaries when they could be used for something more serious. Here is a suggestion; put a stop sign or traffic light at the corner of this street and Holy Cross. This entire street design was flawed from the first time it was drafted on paper. Someday someone is going to get seriously hurt on any one of these two streets. I travel this street coming from the west to help reduce traffic on Lochiel but I am seriously considering using that street once again as I (along with many other people, I am sure) are becoming scared to use this new mess. L. Belair Long Sault Who To Blame For Jaffer DecisionI too am disgusted with the plea-bargain reached regarding Rahim Jaffer, however it is irresponsible to start blaming the Federal Government sighting "interference". It was the provincial crown attorney's office which decided to plea out the provincial police's charges that were a violation of provincial law in the province of Ontario. Therefore it should be Ontario's Attorney General, Liberal MPP Chris Bentley, who should be receiving the calls, complaints and emails. His Phone Number and email address are: Tel: 519-657-3120 Fax: 519-657-0368 Email: cbentley.mpp.co@liberal.ola.org Please direct your attention where it needs to be placed. Phillip Blancher Morrisburg Politcal Leaders Need To Wake UpUnfortunately all our politicians at all levels of government do not realize that we are still in a recession and that these massive debts will be on the shoulders of our grandchildren and even their children. It's long past the time that our politicians realize that there is only so much money that you can grab from us taxpayers. Start by helping Canadians then if there is anything left, then help other countries. Also there should be a limit on how long they can serve in government. Also, cut their golden pensions.
